The term ‘below the fold’ refers to the portion of a webpage that a user must scroll to see. A holdover from newspaper publishing, the term ‘below the fold’ was coined when there was an actual physical fold in the middle of the page. ‘Above the fold’ was anything on the top half, and ‘below the fold’ was anything underneath.
A heatmap or heat map is a two-dimensional representation of data where values are represented by colors. A simple heat map provides an immediate visual summary of information. More elaborate heat maps allow the viewer to understand complex data sets.
In web design, a hero image is a large web banner image, prominently placed on a web page, generally in the front and center. The hero image is often the first visual a visitor encounters on the site; it presents an overview of the site’s most important content.
